Over the years, I had seen 7-8 different therapists and never really felt like I was getting anything out of it. All my sessions felt very sterile and boring and I didn't feel like my therapists got me. I would have a few sessions and then start to feel like it was a waste of time.

So… I had given up on therapy. I just thought it wasn't for me. I figured I will just focus on sleep, nutrition, exercise, and my family/friends; that should be more than enough. But, that all changed when I accidentally stumbled upon my current therapist. I had found him online while doing research for a completely unrelated project I was working on.

As I've gotten deeper into the work with my therapist, I've realized how much we have in common; from our humor, to our life philosophy, to our personality and what we like to do for fun. And I am seeing real results and actually looking forward to therapy every week!

I had two big realizations from this:

1) every platform asks the same thing: location, insurance, concerns, and then leaves you to sort through hundreds (thousands?) of therapists on your own. What do I need? What the heck is EMDR? Where do I start? I felt a huge barrier to even reaching out.

2) the problem I had with all my previous therapists was that we just didn't click on a deeper level. I didn't know anything about them and didn't feel like we had much in common. And for this reason, I just didn't want to open up to them. We could not create a Therapeutic Alliance, the most important predictor of positive outcomes in therapy.

IT SHOULD NOT BE THIS WAY.
